Tragic Accident in Anambra: Woman Fatally Struck by Towing Truck

At the Okpoko Market junction of the Asaba-Onitsha express road, a woman lost her life in a devastating accident involving a commercial tow truck.

Reports indicate that the tragic incident occurred around 12:20 pm on Wednesday.

The victim was attempting to cross the road when the vehicle being towed became detached from the tow truck, leading to her demise, while the truck continued its movement.

 

Confirmation of the accident came from Charles Iyiegbuniwe, the Staff Officer in charge of Public Education at the Federal Road Safety Corps. He mentioned that the FRSC rescue team promptly responded and transported the deceased woman to the morgue.

 

Providing more details, Iyiegbuniwe stated, “Around 12:20hrs, a white commercial Tow Truck with the registration number XA550BMA, model ML180, was towing a vehicle at a high speed along the road.”

“A female pedestrian was crossing the road when the towed vehicle detached and tragically struck her, with the truck continuing its movement.

“The FRSC team intervened, taking the woman to Toronto Mortuary. Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi of Anambra State expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

“He advised the family to stay strong in this challenging time.

“He also issued a caution to motorists, particularly Towing Truck drivers, urging them to adhere to professional standards during towing operations and use appropriate equipment.

“Additionally, he emphasized the importance of all vehicles obeying speed limits on the expressway.”
