Taraba Operation: Troops dismantle terrorist camp, free hostages, and seize weapons

Clearing a terrorists’ stronghold and rescuing abducted victims in Taraba, the troops of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE have achieved a significant feat.

During the operation conducted from 27th to 29th April 2024, arms and ammunition were recovered, as confirmed by the Nigerian Army.

The primary objective of the mission was to eliminate the looming threat from terrorists spreading terror and disruption in Taraba State.

Responding promptly to reports of suspected terrorists firing in the Pukun area of Fikyu, troops from the 93 Battalion Sub-Sector 3B OPWS stationed at Fikyu engaged the assailants with precision firepower, compelling them to retreat.

The subsequent search uncovered an AK 47 Magazine with 10 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition.

Furthermore, acting on intelligence, troops from Kufai Amadu, and Kasuwan Haske collaborated with Sub-Sector 1A OPWS to thwart terrorists in Vingir Village, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State, leading to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle.

Notably, a suspected kidnapper named Dogo Manu, in possession of 2 Tecno mobile phones and N40,000, was apprehended, and kidnapped victims Dr. James Raphael and his son were successfully rescued in Gbeji, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a separate incident, during a night patrol, troops from 20 Model Battalion Sub-Sector 3A OPWS arrested Junaidu Isiaka with 4 sacks of suspected cannabis sativa around Gangdanbana and Kwanar Maliki in Bali Local Government Area.

Junaidu Isiaka, a known figure for illegal drug dealings supplying criminals, was on the watchlist of security agencies, highlighting the operation’s impact in combating criminal activities.

This operation demonstrates the unwavering dedication of the troops in eradicating terrorism and safeguarding the populace’s safety and security.
