The Houthis launch new attacks against Saudi Arabia: a projectile hits Terminal 4 of Riyadh airport

Several people were injured this Sunday in a new attack by the Houthis against the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, after 12 people died on Saturday and more than 300 were injured in another offensive on these facilities.

“The King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was the target of a new attack this afternoon, Sunday, October 11, 2026,” the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) reported in a statement. “The attack has caused injuries and damage assessment and verification of the security of the facilities is currently being carried out in coordination with the competent authorities.”

Fire at Riyadh airport terminal

Previously, the coalition led by Saudi Arabia in support of the Yemeni government recognized by the international community had reported the hit by an unknown projectile in Passenger Terminal 4 of Riyadh Airport that had caused a fire.

“The fire resulting from the aggression and the location are being investigated directly by the competent authorities,” said the military coalition spokesperson in a message posted on social networks. In addition, the coalition reports that the anti-aircraft defenses have intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile in the vicinity of Riyadh airport.

Houthis intensify offensive

The Yemeni Houthi militias have claimed responsibility for the recent attacks on the airports in Riyadh and Damman, as well as those carried out against the Aramco’s Shugadam gas facility in the eastern province, as well as against the same state company’s Tanajib oil refinery in the same area.

These attacks were in response to the continuous bombings of the military coalition led by Riyadh, which has intervened in Yemen since 2015, and which now provides air support to the troops of the internationally recognized Yemeni Government in its operation to recover the areas of the country under Houthi control, including the capital, Sana’a.

The military spokesman for the insurgents, Yahya Sarea, according to the EFE agency, assures that Saudi warplanes have carried out 124 bombing raids in the last 24 hours against rebel positions in Yemen, meaning there have now been at least 2,058 coalition air strikes since the start of the escalation in early September, according to the insurgents’ count.

The Houthis have intensified their actions against Saudi Arabia after Riyadh supported the counteroffensive launched a few days ago by Yemeni government forces to expel the Houthis from the entire Red Sea coast and the areas of northwestern Yemen that they have controlled since the outbreak of the civil war in 2014.
