The admission of 3,579 fresh students at Yola varsity


Modibbo Adama University in Yola has welcomed a total of 3,579 students across various academic departments.

During the 2023/2024 matriculation ceremony on Wednesday, Professor Liman Tukur, the Vice Chancellor, officially announced the admission of the new students, emphasizing that this number signifies the university’s expanding capacity to accommodate more students.

The VC highlighted that the introduction of programs in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences and the establishment of the College of Medical Sciences, which enrolled its second batch of students, have significantly contributed to the influx of new students.

Student distribution across faculties is as follows: Faculty of Agriculture – 348, Faculty of Education – 241, Faculty of Engineering – 355, and Faculty of Environmental Sciences – 257.

Other departmental intakes include Faculty of Life Sciences with 675 students, Faculty of Physical Sciences with 484 students, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences with 495 students, College of Medical Sciences with 50 students, Centre of Distance Learning with 559 students, and Sandwich Degree Program with 125 students.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the new students to develop both their academic capabilities and personal character, stressing that university education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about nurturing strong character traits.

He stated, “The total number of matriculating students is 3,579, representing a continuous increase in the institution’s capacity, a positive development that we actively pursued through the conversion of the institution to its current conventional status.”
