Support for the Assembly’s Investigation of El-Rufai by Kaduna APC and NLC

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed its approval of the state House of Assembly’s decision to investigate the financial transactions, particularly loans acquired by the previous administration of Nasir El-Rufai, as confirmed by the Kaduna APC Publicity Secretary, Salisu Wusono.

Similarly, the Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also endorsed the investigation.

The state Assembly recently established a 13-member panel to scrutinize El-Rufai’s tenure.

The inquiry by the state House of Assembly followed remarks by the current Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, lamenting the substantial debt burden he inherited from El-Rufai.

Sani, speaking at a town hall meeting in Kaduna, emphasized the financial challenges he faced, including difficulties in meeting salary obligations.

Amidst inheriting a significant debt load, Sani reiterated a commitment to advancing Kaduna State’s progress and sustainable development.

The House recently resolved to initiate an investigation into El-Rufai’s administration, forming a fact-finding committee during a special session presided by Speaker Alhaji Yusuf Liman.

Yusuf Mugu, the member representing the Kaura constituency, proposed the motion for the investigation into the loans taken by the previous governor, underscoring the importance of transparency regarding loan conditions.

Upon inquiry about the party’s stance on the investigation, Kaduna APC Publicity Secretary, Wusono, affirmed the party’s support for transparency and adherence to the rule of law.

The Kaduna APC had earlier suspended the state APC Women Leader, Maryam Suleiman, for criticizing Governor Sani following his comments on the financial situation left by El-Rufai.

The Kaduna NLC Chairman, Ayuba Suleiman, also voiced support for El-Rufai’s investigation and urged the Assembly to address issues related to unpaid severance packages for over 32,000 workers laid off during El-Rufai’s administration.

Suleiman highlighted the various categories of affected workers, emphasizing the need for addressing their entitlements as stipulated by labor laws.

Efforts to reach El-Rufai for comment were unsuccessful as his spokesperson, Muyiwa Adekeye, did not respond to calls or messages.
