Reacting to Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva’s spot-kick during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg tie, Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin shared his thoughts.
Being Real Madrid’s penalty shootout hero in their 4-3 victory over Manchester City following a 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium, Lunin’s performance was crucial.
In the shootout that secured Madrid’s spot in the semi-finals against Bayern Munich, Lunin made two impressive saves.
Speaking about Silva’s penalty, which was hit straight down the middle, Lunin mentioned that a pre-shootout decision made with Real Madrid’s coaches helped him make a relatively easy save.
“I took a calculated risk with one of the kicks, we chose to stay in the middle, and thankfully, it worked out in our favor,” Lunin shared with Movistar Plus+.
He expressed gratitude towards his team for their efforts in a tough away Champions League match, saying, “I appreciate everything the team has fought for. I couldn’t have imagined myself putting in the same level of physical effort as my teammates did today.”
