The Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill Gains Momentum in Senate

Having already received approval from the House of Representatives on February 29, 2024, the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill has now made its way to the Senate for further consideration and has been officially introduced on the Senate floor.

In response to this progress, Senate Leader Senator Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele (APC Ekiti Central) is expected to present a motion for concurrence, paving the way for the Senate to endorse the bill in compliance with the established protocols of the National Assembly.

Established by Dr. Dickson Akoh over 25 years ago, the Peace Corps of Nigeria was formally recognized by the Federal Government under the Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) and received accreditation from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, enabling its operation in the country as a Non-Governmental Organization sanctioned by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning.

Additionally, the Senate introduced several other bills for first reading, including the Nigerian Hunters and Security Service Bill 2024, Legislative Houses (Powers & Privileges) Act (Amendment) Bill 2024, and National Talent Rehabilitation and Integration Agency (Establishment) Bill 2024, alongside the Agricultural Research Council Act (Amendment) Bill 2024 and Agricultural Harvest and Processing Zone (Establishment) Bill 2024.
