Raid on Insurgents’ Hideout in Anambra Leads to Recovery of Six IEDs

Reports from Anambra State reveal a successful police raid carried out on a camp belonging to insurgents in Ogbunka community within the Orumba South Local Government Area.

The Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a press statement that the raid was prompted by the repeated attacks on police facilities using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye ordered the Police-Led Joint Security Force to locate and dismantle any camps utilized by insurgents to carry out attacks within the jurisdiction, in response to recent assaults on police stations in Awgbu and Neni.

On Friday, 29th March, 2024, the Joint Security Force conducted a successful operation in the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA, discovering multiple insurgent camps. The perpetrators hastily fled upon the commencement of the raid.

During the operation, six primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and two Walkie-Talkies were seized from the camps. Additionally, a significant amount of food and grocery supplies were also recovered. Subsequently, all the camps were destroyed to prevent insurgents from using them as launch points for future attacks.

The spokesperson assured that the police force is committed to perpetuating the raids in forest areas to locate insurgents and their hideouts, with the aim of neutralizing terrorists, rescuing abducted individuals, and recovering firearms and stolen vehicles in their possession.
