Posthumous Awards Given to Six Slain Policemen


Following the tragic incident in Ughelli, Delta State, where six policemen lost their lives in March, they were posthumously honored during an award and commendation ceremony held in Abuja on Monday.

Providing an update, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared this information on his X handle on Tuesday.

During the event, the families of the deceased officers received their entitled benefits and generous contributions from various government officials.

According to PUNCH, in March, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the deaths of six officers and six others while investigating the disappearance of three colleagues in Delta State.

The NPF provided an update stating that eight suspects were arrested in connection to their murders.

Sharing images from the ceremony on his X account on Tuesday, the FPRO stated, “Our six policemen who lost their lives in Ughelli, Delta State, in February 2024, were posthumously honored at the award and Commendation Ceremony in Abuja on Monday, with their families receiving their entitled payments during the event.

“We appreciate the IGP for his compassionate response to the families’ needs.

“Special thanks to the Governor of Kano State for his donation of N20m. Additionally, the Senate President contributed N6m, and the Senate, N20m.

“Our gratitude extends to all others who have shown interest in supporting the families of our fallen heroes. May God bless you all. May the souls of our departed heroes rest in peace.”
