Peoples Redemption Party demands a thorough investigation of the 2024 budget

In a recent statement, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has urged for the immediate commencement of an independent and comprehensive forensic audit of the 2024 Budget. The aim of this audit is to reveal any potential instances of corruption, misappropriation, mismanagement, and unfairness in budget allocations.

PRP’s acting National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Ishaq, highlighted the importance of having this process carried out by a reputable and neutral third-party organization. The party insists that the findings of the audit should be made public to enhance transparency and accountability within the country.

Emphasizing the need for a complete reform of Nigeria’s budgetary system, PRP calls for the enforcement of strict guidelines to prevent undue influence on budget allocations. They also advocate for the creation of a centralized database to track all budgetary processes and the imposition of severe penalties for any violations of these guidelines.

The party strongly opposes constituency projects, citing concerns over their susceptibility to abuse, corruption, and unfair treatment of constituencies across the federation.

Urging for better training of legislators at both sub-national and national levels on a needs-driven and fair budgetary system, PRP aims to promote a more accountable and equitable budgeting process.

Regarding whistleblowing, PRP criticized the actions of Senate President Akpabio and the Senate as morally wrong and legally questionable. They pointed out the potential conflict of interest in Akpabio presiding over proceedings involving allegations against Senator Ningi, highlighting the importance of upholding due process and fair hearings as stipulated in the Nigerian Constitution.

In conclusion, the party called on the administration to address the identified flaws in the budget as a significant step towards combating corruption effectively.
