‘Daddy Freeze advises Nigerian women: Your husband is your head, not your partner’

Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has sparked controversy by suggesting that Nigerian women should view their husbands as their “heads” and not their partners.

According to Daddy Freeze, various African, Middle Eastern, Christian, and Islamic traditions emphasize the husband’s role as the head of the family, unlike in Western societies where the concept of partnership is more prevalent.

In a video message posted on his Instagram account, the radio host stated, “Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, and Efik traditions, along with Christian and Islamic doctrines, all affirm that the man holds the leadership position in the household. Unlike in the Western culture, where your husband is considered your partner.” He continued, “Your husband is not meant to be your partner; he is your head.”

He advised women to exercise caution in choosing whom to “submit your headship to.”
