Peoples Democratic Party of Jigawa State Stands Firm on Local Government Elections

Amidst the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) suggestion for a one-year extension of the local government council election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a major opposition party in Jigawa State, has firmly rejected this stance.

Alhaji Sa’adu Barwa, the PDP chairman in the Dutse local government, made it clear that the party does not align with the decision made by IPAC, stating that it represents the views of only a few individuals.

Reports from NewsNow highlighted IPAC’s call for a modification to the electoral law in the state, proposing a 360-day notice period for political parties to prepare for elections.

Barwa emphasized, “The tenure of any elected position is clearly outlined in the law. The current tenure of the Jigawa State Government Council concludes by July this year. It is imperative that the state Independent Electoral Commission ensures the smooth conduct of elections across all 27 local government areas and 287 political wards without any delays or extensions.”

He asserted, “Any attempt to manipulate or disenfranchise us will not be tolerated. The PDP is confident in its ability to secure victory in the local government council elections, especially considering the prevailing hardships and economic challenges being faced in the state and the nation at large.”

Barwa also pointed out the apprehension of the All Progressives Congress (APC) about the impending election, reflecting their fear of potential loss.
