Peoples Democratic Party Caucus: No discussion on party chairman’s appointment at upcoming NEC meeting

In a briefing with reporters following the party’s caucus meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asserted that the appointment of the party’s national chairman will not be a topic of discussion at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday at 2:00 p.m.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, clarified that the matter was not on the agenda for the caucus meeting and may be addressed at a future meeting yet to be arranged.

Ologunagba stated, “The caucus did not consider that issue of leadership at this time due to the complexities involved. Therefore, the matter has been deferred to the upcoming NEC meeting. The agenda for Thursday’s NEC meeting will not include discussions on the party’s leadership, but rather the issues presented by the National Working Committee (NWC) were considered by the caucus.”

He added that as a result, the current incumbent, Umar Damagum, would remain in an acting capacity until a decision is reached at the subsequent NEC meeting post-Thursday to allow for further consultations.

Emphasizing the importance of unity within the party and the need to comply with the party’s constitution, Ologunagba remarked, “We are committed to following our succession plan in accordance with our constitution amidst the current circumstances. Our aim is to promote harmony and abide by our constitution, especially considering the ongoing court proceedings.”
