Recent Arrests in Oyo State for Attack on Electoral Officials

Arrests have been made in connection with the assault on electoral officials and the alleged seizure of ballot papers in Kajola local government area of Oyo State, scheduled for Saturday.

Isiaka Olagunju, the Chairman of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, confirmed the incident that occurred on Friday.

Responding to the assault, Olagunju stated that the Divisional Police Officer in the locality has been tasked with apprehending the suspects.

In addition, Olagunju addressed false reports suggesting that the attackers had taken ballot papers during the confrontation.

He clarified, “Contrary to rumors, no ballot papers were taken during the incident. Our officials were targeted at our office in Okeho. However, the ballots remained secure.

“Following the attack, the DPO of Okeho and other law enforcement officers escorted our Electoral Officer to Ibadan. They have since returned to Okeho, and the DPO has been instructed to detain the culprits.”
