Nasir El-Rufai rejects the notion of becoming a political godfather

In a recent address at a Capacity-Enhancement Workshop for Senior Government Officials in Borno State, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai made it clear that he has no interest in assuming the role of a political godfather in the state.

Despite leaving office nearly a year ago, El-Rufai disclosed that he has only returned to Kaduna on five occasions since then.

Expressing his stance on political patronage, El-Rufai emphasized, “I have no desire to play the role of a godfather and that’s why I refrain from interfering in Kaduna’s affairs. I expect the current governor to learn and excel independently.”

Highlighting the significance of competent leadership, he stressed, “The cornerstone of good governance lies in effective leadership. A leader must surround himself with skilled individuals to accomplish tasks.”

Elaborating further, he remarked, “Even the most skilled leader cannot achieve success alone; the effectiveness of a leader is directly proportional to the quality of his team. This underscores the axiom that a nation’s progress is contingent upon the caliber of its civil service.”
