NAFDAC Takes Action Against Bakeries, Medicine Stores, and Water Factories in Plateau State

In a recent move, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed down several unregistered bakeries operating without proper approval in Plateau State.

According to a statement released by Mr. Shaba Mohammed, the Director of the North Central Zone, various water-packaging companies have also been shut down for inadequate adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Additionally, numerous patent medicine stores were sealed off for the sale of expired and unregistered medical products.

These enforcement actions were carried out as part of NAFDAC’s routine inspection and surveillance operations in Dengi (Kanam), Wase, Yelwa Shendam, Shendam, and Namu (Qua’anpan) local government areas by Regulatory Officers from the North Central Zonal Office located in Jos.

Mr. Mohammed emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health by establishing a robust regulatory framework to ensure that only high-quality food, drugs, and other regulated items are manufactured, distributed, and consumed.

He reiterated that the agency would not tolerate the production and sale of unauthorized and unregulated products for the consumption of Nigerians.

Furthermore, he stated NAFDAC’s stance on certifying products through competent and globally recognized ISO certified laboratories, underscoring the importance of consumer awareness and the consumption of NAFDAC-approved products.

The director urged the public to report any violations, such as the sale of expired, damaged, or contaminated products, to the nearest NAFDAC Office.

He cautioned individuals engaged in the illicit manufacturing and distribution of substandard products to cease such activities, as strict sanctions would be imposed on offenders.

Mr. Mohammed advised aspiring entrepreneurs to seek guidance from the nearest NAFDAC office on the proper registration procedures in compliance with approved guidelines.
