Manchester United addresses social media activity with Garnacho

Following his likes on social media posts criticizing manager Erik ten Hag, Manchester United has had a conversation with Alejandro Garnacho regarding the matter.

Garnacho, the Argentina international who was substituted at halftime during their 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, approved of two comments by United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge.

One of the posts accused Ten Hag of unfairly treating Garnacho due to comments made about the player’s performance, while the other expressed discontent with how Garnacho was handled during the match.

Afterward, Garnacho promptly unliked both messages, displaying what the club perceives as a sense of regret. A source from United informed the PA news agency that the issue has been internally resolved.

The young player has been a significant contributor to United’s season, with nine goals and four assists in 42 appearances.

This incident follows a previous situation in September involving Jadon Sancho, who referred to himself as a “scapegoat” after being omitted from the squad for a match against Arsenal, citing alleged poor training as the reason given by Ten Hag.

Sancho vocalized his refusal to accept false statements made about him, which ultimately led to his temporary departure from the team and a loan move to Borussia Dortmund.

Ten Hag’s managerial position has faced increased scrutiny after the draw against Bournemouth, leaving United in seventh place in the Premier League, 13 points adrift from the top four.

United’s remaining chance for silverware this season lies in the FA Cup, where they are set to face second-tier side Coventry in the semi-final at Wembley on Sunday.
