Akwa Ibom Resident Arrested for Killing 70-Year-Old Mother


An individual identified as Inyangake James Peter has been apprehended by the police in Akwa-Ibom State for the alleged murder of his 70-year-old mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter, in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, on Monday.

Reportedly, the suspect was taken into custody on April 4, 2024, at approximately 9:00 am. He reportedly claimed that he was prompted by an inner voice to commit the act.

As per the statement provided, “A 40-year-old individual by the name of Inyangake James Peter has been detained by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for the brutal killing of his biological mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter, aged around 70, on 4/4/2024 at about 9:00 am at Ikpe Annang Village in Etim Ekpo LGA.

“Following a confession by the suspect, he has been moved to the state CID for a thorough investigation.

During questioning, the suspect claimed that he was compelled by a persistent voice instructing him to ‘kill her,’ and he ultimately succumbed to that command,” the statement elaborated.
