Lagos to Expand Blue Rail Line into Ogun State

A discussion is ongoing between the Lagos State Government and the Ogun State government regarding extending the Blue Rail Line further down to Agbara.

During an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Blue Line Phase 2 project in Lagos, Olasukanmi Okusaga, the Director of Rail Transport at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority, revealed this development on Tuesday.

Handling the project is the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Okusaga expressed contentment with the progress made so far and mentioned the ongoing negotiations with the Ogun State government for the extension of the Blue Line to Agbara.

The project, awarded in 2023, is anticipated to be finished within three years.

It will comprise six stations in FESTAC, Alakija, Trade Fair, Volkswagen, LASU, and Okokomaiko, in addition to three bridges in Maza Maza, Satellite Town, and LASU, covering a 14-kilometer stretch.

There are also plans to establish a depot in Okokomaiko,” Okusaga added.

In December last year, the state government announced that the completion of the Blue Line Rail project’s second phase, connecting Mile 2 to Okoko, was scheduled for 2027.

This was disclosed by Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, during a press conference celebrating the agency’s 20th anniversary.

She also stated that by November 29, 400,000 passengers had used the rail system and emphasized that there had been no service delays since the commencement of commercial operations.
