Discussion of Challenges Faced by Northern Governors

Concern was raised by the Northern States Governors Forum, NSGF, over the significant challenges posed by climate change, unsustainable agricultural practices, and population growth in the region.

To address these challenges, the Forum decided to implement a comprehensive approach that emphasizes environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, and responsible resource management. This is aimed at protecting the lives and livelihoods of the people and preserving the national heritage for future generations.

During the NSGF meeting in Kaduna, a communique issued by the chairman and governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, emphasized the crucial role of Human Capital Development in the region’s progress and prosperity. The Forum expressed concern about the region having the highest number of out-of-school children globally and pledged to invest significantly in education, skill development, healthcare, and social services to address this issue.

Expressing solidarity, the forum extended sympathy and support to the governments and citizens of Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Plateau, and Zamfara states who are currently facing severe security challenges.

The Forum also discussed a committee report on the New Nigeria Development Company, resolving that members should review the report for further consideration at the next meeting.

In recognition of the government’s efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities, the forum praised the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and reiterated its commitment to investing in critical infrastructure to unlock the economic potential of the North.

Additionally, the forum acknowledged the positive impact of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) on regional economic revitalization and vowed to support investments in infrastructure that could drive industrial and economic growth in the North.

Furthermore, the forum received a presentation from the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) and the World Bank team, highlighting achievements in system strengthening, project management, and infrastructure development.
