Kaduna Speaker’s Warning to Bello El-Rufai over Threats to Lawmakers

Honorable Yusuf Liman, the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has cautioned Bello El-Rufai against intimidating and making threats to the House regarding the investigation into his father’s 8-year tenure in office.

The House of Assembly had recently established a committee to scrutinize the financial activities, loans, grants, and project executions from 2015 to 2023 during the governance of former governor El-Rufai.

Allegedly, Bello made inflammatory posts on social media, hinting at confrontation and showing disrespect to all members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

The Speaker’s Media Aide, Malam Suraj Bamalli, conveyed that Bello, representing Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, sent disparaging and subtly menacing messages to the Speaker, which have caused public unease in Kaduna State.

In a statement, the Speaker expressed disappointment in a federal lawmaker resorting to such behaviors that aim to obstruct the lawful duties of the state Assembly.

Despite threats and coercion from various quarters, including federal lawmakers, the Assembly remains steadfast in its quest for justice and accountability, assuring the people of its commitment to oversight responsibilities and upholding the rule of law in Kaduna State.

The Speaker called upon the people to uphold transparency, accountability, and the rule of law while emphasizing that the Assembly members are bound by their oaths to maintain integrity in their roles regardless of any attempts at intimidation or threats.
