Warning from Kaduna Speaker to Bello El-Rufai over House of Assembly Probe

The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Honorable Yusuf Liman, has issued a caution to Bello El-Rufai, advising against using threats and intimidation towards the House regarding the investigation into his father’s 8-year leadership.

In recent events, the House of Assembly established a committee to look into the financial transactions, loans, grants, and project executions from 2015-2023, during the tenure of former governor El-Rufai.

However, the speaker has raised concerns about Bello’s behavior on social media, with two tweets suggesting a call to action and showing disrespect towards all House members.

He also voiced worries over messages from Bello, who represents Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, which were described as insulting and subtly threatening.

In a statement released by his Media Aide, Malam Suraj Bamalli, the speaker mentioned that screenshots of the tweets and messages have circulated widely, causing unease among the people of Kaduna State.

Expressing disappointment in a federal lawmaker resorting to such actions, which obstruct the lawful duties of the state Assembly, the speaker emphasized that threats and intimidation, even from federal lawmakers, will not hinder the Assembly’s pursuit of justice and accountability.

He reassured that the House remains resolute in its commitment to provide oversight and uphold the rule of law in Kaduna State, urging the citizens to continue supporting transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.

Highlighting that the Assembly members have sworn to uphold the integrity of their positions and ensure diligence in their responsibilities, regardless of any attempts at intimidation or threats, the speaker emphasized the importance of fulfilling their duties responsibly.
