Jose Enrique criticizes two Liverpool players for their recent performances

Former Liverpool defender, Jose Enrique, has not held back in his criticism of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo for their lackluster displays in the final third over the past few weeks.

Liverpool have faced consecutive defeats at home, failing to find the back of the net against both Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

When speaking with Grosvenor Sport, Enrique didn’t mince his words when discussing Nunez and Gakpo (as reported by The Kop Times):

“Darwin Nunez is simply not performing at the level required, and he never has. While he may be a good player, he does not possess the qualities of a traditional Liverpool number nine. He could potentially feature for many top teams across Europe, but he falls short when it comes to those striving for silverware.”

He further commented, stating, “Cody Gakpo is not a natural goalscorer and cannot deliver you 20 goals each season like Sadio Mane and Salah have done. While Darwin Nunez creates numerous opportunities, he fails to convert them more often than not.”
