Investigation Initiated by FCT Police on NANS Factional Clash

Commencing an investigation into the recent clashes and counterattacks between factional leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students in the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Police Command has begun to look into the matter.

Confirmation of this development was provided by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, in a WhatsApp message after being approached by our correspondent.

A video that went viral on X depicted armed men attacking a young man and targeting a bus adorned with images of a factional NANS leader and a former presidential candidate of the association, Chibuzor Obi, in Zone 8, Abuja.

Addressing the situation, FCT PPRO, SP Adeh, emphasized the police’s commitment to maintaining the peace in the territory and assured of updates on the ongoing investigations.

Adeh stated, “The FCT police command is currently looking into the reported clashes and counterattacks involving factional NANS leaders to ensure that the peace in the territory is preserved. Further updates will be shared.”

Efforts to reach both the legitimate NANS president, Lucky Emenike, and the factional president, Chinazor Obi, for comments on the matter were unsuccessful as our correspondent’s calls and messages were left unattended.

Similarly, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to attempts to reach out for comments.

Prior to this incident, NewsNow previously reported on December 1 and 2, 2023, the intrusion of a NANS faction at the National Hospital, Abuja, where two injured members from a different faction were receiving treatment following a previous clash between the factions.

It was reported that the violent confrontation led to patients fleeing their hospital wards, prompting police intervention to restore order.

In the aftermath of the National Hospital incident on December 1, 2023, major roads surrounding the Abuja International Conference Center and the National Hospital were deserted, with police cordoning off sections of the highway.

Contacted about the incident in December, Dr. Tayo Haastrup, the hospital’s spokesperson, confirmed the attack and highlighted the intruders’ intent to harm the injured faction members receiving treatment.
