Heartbroken Spouse Despairs Over Wife’s Continued Captivity Despite Ransom Payment

Lamenting the ongoing abduction of his wife, Risikat Oladokun, by gunmen in the Awa Ijebu area of Ogun State, Mathew Oladokun revealed the Nigeria Police’s failure to secure her release despite a N5m ransom payment to the abductors.

Expressing his distress to a correspondent on Monday, the husband shared his frustration with the police’s seeming abandonment of the search efforts, as the abductors persist in demanding further ransom from the family.

PUNCH Metro reported that Risikat was taken from her home in Awa Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area on March 12 while returning from work.

Blaming the police for his wife’s prolonged captivity, Oladokun bemoaned the abductors’ refusal to release her despite the initial ransom payment.

Oladokun disclosed, “The ransom paid to secure my wife’s release has exceeded N5m, but the abductors are still demanding more funds.

“They have prevented us from contacting her since the abduction, leaving us uncertain of her condition, only asking for more money.

“The abduction occurred as we arrived home, with the gunmen ambushing us. Upon robbing us of our belongings and locking me with our children, they took my wife with them.”

Recounting the harrowing ordeal, Oladokun mentioned, “They seized both our phones, cash, and ATM cards, wiping our bank accounts clean and demanding ransom from the family.

“Initially asking for N15m, we could not meet this demand. We sent N1.2m initially, then N2.2m, yet their demands persist, refusing to release her,” Oladokun elaborated.

He reported the case to the police, which was later transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit, but no substantial progress has been made towards his wife’s safe return.

Petitioning the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, Oladokun implored for a collaborative effort among security agencies to expedite his wife’s release.

When approached, Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, acknowledged the case but cited a lack of updates from the Divisional Police Officer.

She pledged to revert with any developments but had not done so at the time of this report.
