Monthly Sanitation Exercise Now Compulsory in Gombe State

A new mandatory monthly sanitation exercise has been introduced by the Gombe State government to boost environmental cleanliness and sustainability efforts within the state.

The decision, approved by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, will see the exercise take place every last Saturday of the month, with the first session set for April.

In a recent memo, Commissioner for Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, Mohammed Fawu, emphasized the significance of this exercise and urged residents to participate actively in cleaning up their surroundings.

Expressing the government’s commitment to providing a healthy living environment, Fawu stated, “To promote a sustainable and healthy environment, Gov. Yahaya has sanctioned a monthly general environmental sanitation exercise in the state.”

“This initiative expects public compliance every last Saturday of the month, between 8 am and 10 am, with limited movements during the exercise period (excluding essential services personnel). All government agencies and the public are instructed to adhere strictly to this directive,” he added.

Monitoring and enforcement of compliance during the exercise will be carried out by officials from the Ministry of Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, along with the Gombe State Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency (GOSEPA).

Recent reports from NewsNow have highlighted the establishment of waste collection points by the state government in various neighborhood communities to enhance waste management efficiency within the city and its outskirts.
