Fire Incident Disrupts Flights at Lagos Airport

Operations at Murtala Muhammed Airport terminal 1 and the D wing have been redirected by the Federal Airport Authority (FAAN) due to a recent fire outbreak.

An official statement from FAAN mentioned that power has been cut off from the entire E wing of the airport as engineers work to extinguish the fire that started at 5:29 am on Thursday.

Reportedly, smoke initially emanated from the E54 bridge and later escalated into a fire, causing panic among airport staff and travelers at the scene.

FAAN, in collaboration with the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services team, managed to bring the situation under control after a brief period of chaos.

The statement from FAAN illustrated, “Smoke was observed coming from the E54 Bridge, prompting electrical engineers to immediately disconnect power to the E Wing.

“The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) squad quickly responded, reaching the location by 05:30 hrs. While initial suspicions suggest sparks from an electrical unit as the possible cause, a thorough investigation is underway to determine the root of the fire.

“By 06:41 hrs, the escalating fire was successfully contained. Efforts are ongoing to ventilate the building from smoke. Meanwhile, flight operations in Terminal 1 of MMA have been redirected to the D Wing. Further updates will be provided soon.”
