Recent Development: Police Detain Officers Involved in Alleged Killing of Student in Ogbomoso

According to the Oyo State Police Command, certain officers implicated in the alleged killing of a student named Damilola Iyanda at a club in Ogbomoso are now under detention. This disclosure was made through a statement released by the Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso.

The incident involved Inspector Rasheed Saheed, who was accused of being responsible for Iyanda’s death, along with two others who sustained injuries during the altercation.

Osifeso confirmed that Saheed and the other officers have been placed in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku. Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be handled by the Homicide Department under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police for a thorough investigation.

The Police Command provided clarification regarding the shooting incident that occurred at a popular Night Club in Owode-Ogbomoso, resulting in Iyanda Damilola’s tragic death amidst an altercation with suspected student cultists.

Upon receiving a distress call from the Night Club’s Director reporting the disturbance caused by the alleged cultists, a team led by Inspector Rasheed Saheed arrived at the scene. Despite attempts by the cultists to impede police intervention and the subsequent firing of warning shots, the situation escalated, leading to Damilola’s demise and his brother’s injury.

As per protocol, all involved officers, including Inspector Rasheed Saheed, are currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku. The statement reiterated the commitment of the Oyo State Police Command to ensuring swift justice, particularly for the Student Community.
