Post-match Comments from Wolves Manager O’Neil on Defeat to Man City

Gary O’Neil, the manager of Wolves, criticized his players for their performance in the 5-1 defeat against Manchester City, describing it as “easy” for the opposition.

On Saturday, Erling Haaland scored four goals for the Premier League champions, including two from penalty kicks, while Julian Alvarez, a substitute for Haaland, also found the net.

Watching the game from the stands, O’Neil shared his thoughts with BBC’s Match of the Day, saying, “We inadvertently made it easier for them. They are an exceptional team and capitalized on our errors, some of which were quite egregious.

“We had some really poor turnovers that directly led to their goals, especially the first one. While the officiating didn’t impact the outcome, I disagreed with the decision to award the initial penalty.

“I felt it was a questionable call. Similar situations occur frequently. In this instance, I believe that Gvardiol’s actions and follow-through played a significant role in the contact with Rayan. It’s not feasible for Rayan to vanish at that moment.

“The first penalty decision left me dissatisfied, but I was even more disappointed with the mistakes made by our team. We made it too convenient for Manchester City.”
