Enugu Labour Party legislators switch allegiance to PDP

Transitioning from the Labour Party, six Enugu State House of Assembly members have crossed over to the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

Among these lawmakers are Ejike Eze (Igbo-Eze North 1), Johnson Ugwu (Enugu North), Princess Ugwu (Enugu South Rural), Pius Ezeugwu (Nsukka West), Amuka Williams (Igbo-Etiti East), and Osita Eze (Oji River).

The announcement of their switch was made during the assembly session in Enugu on Thursday. It was relayed to the house by the Speaker, Uche Ugwu, through a formal letter.

Reasons given for their departure include “irreconcilable division, ongoing crisis within the national Labour Party, and similar crises across all state chapters.”

They lamented the continuous internal discord in the LP which has led to factions engaging in legal battles, hindering the party’s capacity to effectively serve the populace.

The defectors emphasized that the LP, once a symbol of progressive ideals, has now become synonymous with internal strife, hampering its ability to meet the electorate’s aspirations.

They expressed optimism in the PDP, believing it would provide a solid platform for them to conscientiously serve their constituents.

The LP encountered further turmoil after its Board of Trustees purportedly took control of the party’s administration.

These developments unfolded shortly after the re-election of Julius Abure as National Chairman during the party’s national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday.

The convention also witnessed the reappointment of all members of the National Working Committee.
