Condolence Visit by Governor Alia to Victims of Herdsmen Attack

Relief materials were donated to hundreds of displaced individuals in six council wards in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State by Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.

In a vow to halt the continuous attacks by bandits suspected to be herdsmen militia on the community, Gov. Alia made this commitment.

During an address to the communities in locations like Ichongo Traditional Council, Jato Aka, RCM Special Science Primary School, Nyihemba, and Achia Primary Health Care, Usambeliev Ikyurav ya, Gov. Alia revealed this information on Friday.

It was affirmed by him that the government would not watch idly as bandits kill, destroy, and take over their communities.

Gov. Alia, represented by his Deputy Dr. Sam Ode, assured that a Military post would be established in Abaji to prevent attacks on farmers in Anyiase, Abande, and Nundugh by the bandits.

He issued instructions to the Commissioner of Police to strengthen the police station in Jato Aka with fifty additional police personnel for prompt response.

Commencing next month, Gov. Alia mentioned that the demarcation of boundaries between Benue, Taraba, Cameroon, Ebonyi, and Nasarawa will start, which he believes will be a non-kinetic approach to addressing insecurity in the state.

Assurance of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to their well-being was given by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Joseph Alakali, and Chairman of Kwande Local Government Council, Rev. Mark Hule.

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, guaranteed the people of Turan and Ikyurav ya that the police are effectively handling the situation, mentioning the elimination of two bandits, arrest of one, and recovery of weapons from them.

Chief Timothy Ahire, the Ter Kwande, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the visit and expressed concern about reduced market activity in regions like Anyiase Abande, Nundugh, and Abaji due to attacks by herdsmen militia.

James Iorpuu, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, reassured the people of continuous supply of food and non-food items to alleviate their struggles.

Terver Ageba, a victim from Nyihemba, Mbakyor council, conveyed appreciation to the Governor and his team for providing them with a sense of belonging, highlighting their displacement from homes by the herdsmen, leaving them homeless.
