Reducing crime through training and youth empowerment advocated by Representative

Encouraging youth involvement in activities that foster productivity and meaningful living is advocated by Adeniyi Ojuawo, a member of the House of Representatives.

Representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, Ojuawo emphasized the importance of empowering youths to participate in sectors like agriculture and production as a means to curb societal crime rates.

Addressing attendees at a two-day capacity-building workshop themed “Agroprenuer: Building reliance and sustainability in crop production and animal husbandry” in Ikere Ekiti, the federal lawmaker shared insights on modern crop production and animal husbandry techniques with around 100 youths and farmers from his constituency.

He highlighted, “The objective of this initiative is to elevate interventions and exploit value chains to enhance agricultural productivity. Following the training, each of the 100 beneficiaries will receive agricultural inputs, along with grants and improved seeds.”

Underlining his dedication to generating employment opportunities in agribusiness and modernizing agriculture within his constituency for food security, Ojuawo remarked, “Through this training program, our aim is to introduce young minds to farming business prospects and enhance agricultural methodologies.

“The rise in crime among youths due to idleness and restlessness calls for engaging them in productive activities. Hence, participants are encouraged to adopt superior agricultural practices to boost their output.”

Acknowledging the Representative’s efforts, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, commended the capacity-building initiative for farmers in Ise/Orun, Ikere, and Ekiti Southwest local government areas.

Representing the governor, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, stated, “The current administration in Ekiti State is devoted to fostering policies that drive self-sufficiency in food production and generate employment in the agriculture value chain to bolster the state’s industrialization.”
