NAFDAC Shuts Down 50 Stores in Kaduna

In Kaduna State, fifty outlets have been closed down by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) due to the sale of edible oil in unhygienic conditions.

The closure operation took place during a sensitization workshop for retailers, focusing on proper registration procedures and food handling.

This information was shared in a statement published on the agency’s official social handle on Saturday.

Mrs. Josephine Dayilim, the Director of the North-West Zonal Office, elaborated in the statement that NAFDAC took the step of sealing fifty outlets in Kaduna for selling edible oil in unsanitary conditions, with a goal to mitigate potential health hazards linked to contamination.

She underscored the risks associated with consuming oil processed in unclean environments, highlighting the dangers of foodborne illnesses, gastrointestinal issues, and even cancer due to inadequate processing and the use of corrosive equipment.

The director emphasized the significance of utilizing food-grade materials and maintaining clean production areas to uphold consumer safety.

As part of its commitment to eradicate substandard pharmaceutical practices among retailers, NAFDAC also conducted raids and closed down at least 1,321 patent medicine shops in the Sabon Gari open market of Kano.
