EFCC takes legal action against two individuals for N20.5m fraud in Kano

Charged before Justice Ibrahim Karaye of the Kano State High Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are Sufiyanu Yahaya and Mudassir Idris. The charges against them revolve around the misappropriation of funds totaling N20,500,000.

Yahaya is accused of misappropriating N11,500,000 meant for the supply of rice on behalf of a petitioner, while Idris is alleged to have misappropriated N9,000,000 intended for the purchase of 360 pieces of solar panels.

In response to their charges, both defendants, as indicated in a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, pleaded not guilty.

Following their pleas, prosecution counsels A.H El-Badawi and Sadiq Kurawa requested a trial date from the court.

Y.A Dauda, representing Yahaya, submitted a bail affidavit on behalf of the defendant, urging the court to grant bail to his client.

Justice Karaye granted bail to Yahaya in the amount of N12,000,000, with two sureties subject to verification by the EFCC. Idris, on the other hand, was not granted bail at this time.

The cases have been adjourned until May 27, 2024, for the commencement of the trial, and both defendants have been remanded at the Correctional Centre.
