Recounting a Near-Death Experience: Gospel Singer Buchi’s Story

Surviving a dire situation, Nigerian reggae Gospel artist, Buchi Atuonwu, reflects on his miraculous escape from a firing squad’s execution.

In a recent interview with Channels TV, Buchi shared his harrowing ordeal of being on the brink of death before a divine intervention spared his life.

His journey from a nightclub DJ and university lecturer to a church choir member was marred by involvement in activities that brought him to the brink of execution.

Reflecting on his turbulent past, Buchi explained, “My music is a product of the diverse experiences I’ve had, ranging from engaging in vices like drug abuse and youth violence to my transformation through faith.

“The chaotic incidents I went through shaped the themes of my songs, which touch on issues like gun-running and violence. In my recent book titled ‘My Weed And I,’ I explore the detrimental effects of substance abuse on individuals.”

He continued, “There was a pivotal moment where death seemed imminent as we faced an execution squad. As the executioners prepared to take action, I made a desperate plea to an unknown God promising to dedicate my life in service if spared. Miraculously, I was rescued from that dire fate, and since then, I have been committed to fulfilling my vow.”
