Crackdown on Ethnic Vigilante Groups and Other Organizations in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has initiated the enforcement of Executive Order No. 1 of 2024 recently issued by Governor Abdullahi Sule, which prohibits all ethnic vigilante groups within the state.

In a directive conveyed through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, Commissioner of Police CP Shehu Umar Nadada instructed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of various departments in the Command to ensure the full implementation of the ban.

Additionally, members of the dissolved groups are required to surrender all uniforms and equipment in their possession to the nearest Area Commanders or Divisional Police officers within a two-week period.

As per the statement, the Commissioner addressed the residents of Nasarawa State, particularly the Kungiyar Zaman Lafia Nomad vigilante, Bassa vigilante, Eggon vigilante, and similar groups, stressing that any organization aiming to provide security based on ethnic lines through force or arms is now prohibited from operating within the state.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police has mandated all relevant authorities in the Command to strictly enforce this prohibition and warned all group members to comply with the directive to avoid legal consequences.
