Chelsea’s Reminder to Mason Mount for Breaking Club’s Coronavirus Self-Isolation Rules

Chelsea issued a reminder to player Mason Mount and the rest of their first-team squad about their responsibilities amidst the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. This came after Mount broke his self-isolation.

Mount was spotted playing football at Trent Park Football Centre in Barnet on Sunday with West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, despite the club’s directive for players and staff to self-isolate for 14 days following winger Callum Hudson-Odoi’s positive Covid-19 test last Thursday.

West Ham’s Rice, a childhood friend of Mount, was not required to self-isolate by his club, as no cases of coronavirus had been reported among players or staff at West Ham. This led him to perceive no issue in playing football with Mount.

According to Goal, Chelsea cautioned Mount against breaking self-isolation rules in the future and reiterated to other players the importance of avoiding public places and meeting with friends, as advised by Government health authorities.

The Premier League has been suspended until April 3, following government orders to halt large gatherings of people to combat the virus.

Odoi, the Premier League’s first player to test positive for the virus, released a video over the weekend, announcing his recovery.

He said in a social media video, “Hi guys, as you may be aware I had the virus for the last couple of days, which I’ve recovered from. I’m following the health guidelines and self-isolating for the week. I hope to see everybody soon and hopefully be back on the pitch very soon. Take care.”

British authorities estimate that as many as 10,000 Brits could have been infected by the virus.
