Support has poured in from Nigerians living abroad as esteemed chess master Tunde Onakoya sets out to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
Sharing the start of the marathon on his X account, Onakoya captioned, “Game time.”
In another post, he mentioned, “We haven’t even kicked off yet and Nigerians are already joining me.”
Among the supporters is Nigerian singer Adekunle Kosoko, better known as Adekunle Gold.
The marathon, taking place at the iconic Times Square in New York City, commenced at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17, and is expected to conclude at 8 pm on April 19.
Onakoya aims to engage in an intense chess marathon, striving to play for 58 hours without a single defeat.
The existing Guinness World Record, held by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway since November 11, 2018, stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.
