APM Criticizes New Osun Logo as a Misuse of Public Funds

The design of Osun State’s new logo by the government has been condemned as a squandering of taxpayers’ money by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the state.

The party’s chairman, Wale Adebayo, expressed that the concept behind the new logo project was misguided, akin to starting from the top when climbing a tree.

It was reported that Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State signed a bill adopting the new logo on Wednesday.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor mentioned that the bill signing event had the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, in attendance.

Back in July 2023, the Osun State House of Assembly repealed the state’s Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law 2012, replacing it with a new law that empowered the executive to create a new logo for the state.

Marking the occasion, Governor Adeleke highlighted that enacting the new logo into law symbolized the rejuvenation of Osun State.

He explained that the new state emblem was of significance as it resonated with the state’s history, anthem, values, and traditions.

“Additionally, the new logo serves as an educational tool for our youth, encapsulating symbols of our notable landmarks, strengths, resources, and history,” the governor remarked.

“It also functions as a promotional asset to showcase the state locally and internationally.

“I am honored to unveil the new logo as our state symbol.

“This declaration signifies a fresh era of prosperity, abundance, and sustainability for our citizens and supporters,” Adeleke affirmed.

Conversely, Adebayo disapproved of the development, labeling it as underwhelming: “We, at APM, stand with the majority in the state in voicing our disappointment with the new logo initiative. It translates to a misuse of public funds.

“The populace requires transformative leadership that addresses their livelihoods, creates job opportunities, instead of mere branding. What has the administration achieved for the masses since assuming office? Practically nothing.

“The people rely on state leadership to tackle their challenges. The caliber of governance, the well-being of your constituents, and the state’s security should take precedence.”

Adebayo stressed that effective leadership overshadowed superficial changes like the new logo.

“The party stresses the necessity for concrete measures and policies that bring positive change to people’s lives rather than superficial ventures that fail to tackle their core problems.

“In times when individuals grapple with issues like poverty, unemployment, and deficient infrastructure, flashy branding exercises like a new logo may hold little value.

“This disconnect between government priorities and the needs of the common people in this environment leads to significant discontent and frustration among the populace,” the statement conveyed.
