Emefiele’s Trial Delayed Due to EFCC Lawyer’s Absence

Thursday’s trial of former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele on procurement fraud charges was stalled due to the absence of the lead counsel representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo.

Mr. Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was unable to attend court as he had prior official commitments, as indicated in a letter he sent. He requested an adjournment of the trial to a later date.

During the hearing, a representative for Emefiele, I. D. Ahmed, informed the court that the prosecution had requested an adjournment. However, the trial judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, noted that the proposed date for the adjournment was not suitable for the court’s schedule.

As a result, the trial was rescheduled to continue on June 24 and 25.
