Biafra civil war: BRGIE announces counter to IPOB’s Sit-at-home plan in South-East

The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, BRGIE, has presented a conflicting date for the sit-at-home event in honor of Biafran heroes who lost their lives during the 1967-1970 Civil War in Nigeria, opposing the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Prime Minister of BRGIE, Simon Ekpa, revealed in a statement on Sunday that the sit-at-home in Biafra land is scheduled from the 29th to the 31st of May 2024. This move comes in response to IPOB’s declaration of a sit-at-home on May 30, 2024.

BRGIE emphasized that their sit-at-home will span three days, with Ekpa stressing the importance of the event for Biafrans to participate in voting for the Liberation of Biafra.

The significance of casting votes for the Liberation of Biafra was highlighted by Ekpa, who pointed out that merely observing the sit-at-home without Igbos engaging in the voting process would be futile.

Ekpa also highlighted that while the Biafra Civil War officially concluded through media announcements, the Nigerian government has continued its opposition against Biafrans up to the present day.

He outlined the sit-at-home schedule, stating, “The sit-at-home in Biafraland on the designated dates is aimed at facilitating Biafrans’ participation in the final phase of the self-referendum voting process.

Furthermore, BRGIE distinguishes itself from mere political pressure groups, asserting its proactive stance towards the Liberation of Biafra through all necessary means. This approach involves utilizing the sit-at-home event on May 30 not just for remembrance but as an opportunity for individuals to exercise their voting rights.

Ekpa declared, “The remnants of the civil war persist beyond historical documentation, with Nigeria’s ongoing confrontation against Biafra since 1970. Merely observing the sit-at-home to commemorate fallen heroes is inadequate when current attacks jeopardize heroes in 2024.

“As the conflict persists in reality, this May remembrance serves as a pivotal moment to advance the Liberation of Biafra by ensuring active participation in the voting process. I urge Biafrans in the Southeast and South-South regions to vote for Biafra’s Liberation.

“The Biafra Self-referendum consists of three stages, with the final phase concluding in November 2024, followed by the Declaration convention scheduled from November 29 to December 3, 2024,” Ekpa further elaborated.
