Despite Governor Nwifuru’s Instruction, PDP spokesperson, Nwoba, Still Detained

Chika Nwoba, the spokesperson for the opposition People’s Democratic Party in Ebonyi State, remains in Abakaliki Correctional Centre even after being granted bail.

In February, Nwoba’s troubles began when he accused the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzor Offia-Nwali, of misappropriating N3 million meant for empowerment.

Following a petition by Commissioner Offia-Nwali, Nwoba was arrested. Offia-Nwali claimed that Nwoba had defamed him on Facebook, threatened his life, and falsely accused him of fraud and misappropriation of state funds intended for assisting small traders in the state.

After spending two months behind bars, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, in a recent church service, appealed to Offia-Nwali to show mercy and consider dropping the case against Chika Nwoba.

As a result, a court in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, granted a bail application for Nwoba. However, despite the governor’s directive and the court’s decision, Nwoba remains incarcerated at the time of writing this report.
