TY Danjuma: Nigeria’s Insecurity a Source of Global Shame

Described as a total disgrace by the former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (retd.), Nigeria is now seen as a laughing stock due to the ongoing waves of killings and kidnappings plaguing the nation.

Speaking at the 2024 Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival in the Ibi Local government area of Taraba State, Danjuma expressed deep concern over the country’s current state.

The chairman of the event, an elder statesman, lamented Nigeria’s status as a war zone and a hub of absurdities, leaving a bitter impression on the global community.

Danjuma urged Nigerians to restore the country’s reputation on the world stage.

Forewarning of imminent danger, Danjuma cautioned, ”To make this festival truly international, we must first establish peace in Taraba and Nigeria.

“No sensible foreigner would partake in our celebrations if we continue harming each other, jeopardizing safety on our roads and perpetrating kidnappings.

“Our current state in Nigeria is a disgrace to the global community. The entire nation is a battleground where citizens fight against each other.

“It is imperative that we restore order within our borders, as we are currently a subject of mockery worldwide. Ceasing the cycle of violence, ensuring safe passages, and deterring kidnappings are essential priorities. May God guide us as we strive to rectify our situation.

“Let us reaffirm our dedication to fostering peace and unity, celebrating the ties that bind us as one family. May this event serve as a reminder of our identity and the power found in our unity.

“To truly make this a global event, we must secure peace within our state and across the nation.”

During the event, Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding justice and peace, enabling development to flourish within the state.

By showcasing Taraba as a natural treasure to the world, Kefas emphasized the need to maximize the state’s vast potential, ensuring safety for all residents.

Additionally, Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, advocated for the continuity of the cultural festival, pledging Adamawa state’s support to foster social, political, economic, and peaceful coexistence between the people of Taraba and Adamawa states.
