Two Soldiers Dismissed by Nigerian Army for Stealing Cables from Dangote Refinery


Confirmation has been made by the Nigerian Army regarding the dismissal of two soldiers for their involvement in the alleged theft of armoured cables from the premises of Dangote Refinery in Lagos State.

The soldiers, Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani, were immediately dismissed and handed over to other security agencies for further legal action.

An official statement released by Army’s spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, revealed that the incident involving the two soldiers took place on April 14.

The statement stated: “In adherence to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline, we wish to inform the public about the conclusion of the investigation into the alleged theft of armoured cables at Dangote Refinery on the 14th of April 2024, which involved Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani.

“Following a comprehensive investigation carried out in collaboration with the company’s management, it was discovered that the two soldiers abandoned their post and were in unauthorized possession of the materials. Consequently, they were charged with failure to execute military duties, an offense punishable under Section 57, subsection (1) and other civil violations punishable under Section 114, subsection (1) of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, the Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

“They underwent a summary trial where the evidence against them was presented. They were given the chance to defend themselves, but they were ultimately found guilty of the accusations according to military regulations.

“In line with the Nigerian Army’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and criminal behavior within its ranks, the two soldiers have been dismissed from the Army immediately and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings.”

The Army emphasized that their expulsion was part of its commitment to preserving its institutional integrity and reputation.
