Government of Nigeria Highlights Essential Requirement for Vast Resources to Address Myriad of Environmental Issues

In a recent announcement, the Federal Government emphasized the necessity of significant funding to combat the diverse array of environmental challenges within the nation.

During the Technical Session of the 17th gathering of the National Council on Environment on Monday, Mr. Mahmud Kambari, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, delivered this message.

Highlighting the prevailing issue of inadequate funding in the sector, he remarked on the struggle faced by successive administrations in allocating resources that match the scale and urgency of environmental problems despite the critical importance of environmental preservation for human well-being.

He underlined the importance of focusing on financing, suggesting the development of strong funding models and exploration of various avenues to generate resources effectively to address the sector’s needs adequately.

Kambari also acknowledged the relevance of the theme “Environment Financing: Need to mobilise more financial inflows for generating adequate resources in support of environmental sustainability efforts.”

Emphasizing that the theme aligns with the current administration’s priorities, he linked it to the commitment to leveraging energy and natural resources for sustainable development as outlined in the Presidential Priorities within the framework of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He urged stakeholders to collaborate and innovate in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
