An official statement from the Nigerian Army has announced the immediate dismissal of two soldiers who were involved in stealing armored cables from Dangote Refinery in Lagos State.
The two soldiers, Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani, have been relieved of their duties and handed over to other security agencies for further legal action.
According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army’s spokesman, the incident took place on April 14, with the soldiers found guilty after a thorough investigation in collaboration with the refinery’s management.
Both soldiers were charged with neglecting their military duties, a violation punishable under the Armed Forces Act, and found guilty after a trial where they were given the chance to defend themselves.
In response to the misconduct, the Nigerian Army has made it clear that it has a zero-tolerance policy for such behavior within its ranks. The swift dismissal of the soldiers and their transfer for prosecution highlights the Army’s commitment to upholding professionalism and integrity.
