NSA Ribadu Highlights Sharp Decrease in Terrorism-related Deaths and AK-47 Prices

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, has reported a significant reduction in terrorism-related deaths in Nigeria, down from 2,600 to fewer than 200 per month.

He also mentioned that the price of an AK-47 has soared from N500,000 to over N5 million, credited to the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in tackling insecurity.

Speaking at the High-Level African Counter-Terrorism Meeting in Abuja, Ribadu emphasized that the AK-47s being confiscated are being properly disposed of.

According to him: “Our actions have yielded positive results. A clear example of progress is the surge in the price of an AK-47, which was previously below N500,000 but now commands N5 million in the market.”

“This shortage indicates that these weapons are becoming scarce as we are actively removing and eliminating them from circulation,” he added.

“Despite the ongoing efforts which might not be visible to everyone, we commend the diligent work of our armed forces, security personnel, and the proactive governors,” Ribadu said.

“We are witnessing tangible changes in Nigeria, and as a result, the incidents of violent crimes and illegal use of firearms have significantly decreased,” he continued.

“Previously, we were seeing around 2,600 deaths per month, but currently, the average has dwindled to less than 200,” he noted.

He expressed optimism, stating that these notable improvements are indications of the effectiveness of the measures being implemented.
