Two Men Accused of Robbery Receive 30 Lashings from Taliban Court

According to the Taliban Supreme Court, two individuals accused of robbery in Afghanistan’s Kapisa province were publicly lashed on Tuesday.

Each of the convicts, whose identities have been withheld, was subjected to 30 lashes. Furthermore, one of them was handed a three-year prison sentence, while the other received a one and a half-year sentence.

The statement mentioned that court officials and local residents were present to witness the lashings.

Since the Taliban’s resurgence in Afghanistan, there has been a revival of public punishments, such as flogging and executions, for crimes like robbery, murder, and adultery.

Five men convicted of murder have been publicly executed by Taliban courts since August 2021.

Despite facing criticism from human rights groups, Taliban authorities have defended their actions by stating that the enforcement of strict Islamic law, known as sharia, is crucial for reducing crime rates and maintaining public safety.
