Appeal from Tinubu: Niger Delta Region’s Infrastructural Development Requires Patience

In Asaba at the 6th Meeting of the National Council of Niger Delta (NCND) themed “Stimulating Strategies For Economic Growth and Development in the Niger Delta Region,” President Bola Tinubu urged the people of the Niger Delta to be patient regarding the region’s infrastructural development.

Representing Tinubu, Minister of Steel Development Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu highlighted that a comprehensive plan has been formulated by the administration for the region’s overall progress.

The focus was underscored as aligning with the administration’s objectives in the renewed hope agenda.

Tinubu emphasized the need for proper coordination of developmental programs and projects in the region to stimulate growth.

The overarching goal is to generate employment, enhance education and healthcare, alleviate poverty, and promote equity across Nigerian society. This endeavor is essential for providing support to all citizens during challenging times.

Efforts in developing the Niger Delta region and other parts of Nigeria encompass a holistic approach that concentrates on infrastructure, education, and leveraging the nation’s abundant resources.

The commitment to development is evident in the Ministerial Performance Bond for Presidential Priorities and Deliverables for 2023 – 2027, signed by the Minister of Niger Delta Development and other members of the Federal Executive Council.

To ensure the successful implementation of development initiatives, the administration expanded the scope of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to oversee policies, projects, and programs aimed at realizing the long-desired growth of the Niger Delta region.

New leadership within the Ministry prioritized harmonizing all developmental plans of agencies and development partners operating in the region into a comprehensive integrated plan to expedite progress.

The administration’s proactive stance in revitalizing the NDDC to maximize its objectives and impact is exemplified by the recent appointment of the new board.

Senator Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum and Imo State Governor, emphasizes the necessity for an ideology-driven dialogue on the region’s development, urging the NDDC to convene a meeting of the nine Niger Delta states’ governors for deliberations on progress.

Minister of Niger Delta Development Engr Abubakar Momoh expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for hosting the National Council meeting, underscoring the council’s collaborative efforts with stakeholders to enhance infrastructural and human capital development in alignment with President Tinubu’s agenda.

Gov. Oborevwori urged the NDDC to conclude ongoing and abandoned projects for the region’s benefit, emphasizing their crucial role in urban-rural integration, job creation, and economic growth.

The forum serves as a strategic avenue for regional states to address common interests and challenges, fostering a more dynamic and equitable framework for prosperity through sustainable use of natural resources.

Gov. Oborevwori appealed for the swift completion of all ongoing and neglected projects in the region, recognizing the urgency of these actions.
