EFCC Chief Olukoyede: I’ll Step Down if Yahaya Bello Isn’t Arrested and Prosecuted

The head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, is determined to see the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, face arrest and prosecution.

Olukoyede disclosed that he personally called Bello to request his appearance before the commission to address the allegations against him as a gesture of respect.

Despite the direct invitation, the ex-governor declined, prompting the EFCC to escalate its actions by declaring him as a wanted individual while he goes into hiding, hoping the issue will blow over.

“Should I not oversee the conclusion of the Yahaya Bello investigation myself, I am prepared to submit my resignation as EFCC chairman,” Olukoyede stated during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Emphasizing the significance of nationwide support for the EFCC, Olukoyede stressed that the country’s reputation is at stake if the agency fails to deliver.

He also cited the positive effects of the ongoing anti-corruption efforts on the Naira’s value and the foreign exchange market.
